SHA256 Checksums & Signatures

Every official release publishes SHA256 hashes and code-signing signatures. After you download, compute the hash locally and compare it to the published value before running the installer.

How to verify on Windows

Open PowerShell in the folder containing the installer.
Run: Get-FileHash .\wireshark-setup.exe -Algorithm SHA256
Compare the output hash to the value listed for your file version.

Antivirus False-Positive Clarification

Packet capture software installs drivers such as Npcap that hook into network stacks. Some antivirus products flag these behaviors heuristically even when the file is legitimate signed Wireshark software.

If your scanner quarantines the installer: verify the SHA256 hash and digital signature, download only from links you trust on this page, and temporarily allow the signed installer if hashes match.
